Discusses and transcribes the Morales works in Silva. Suggests that Bermudo may not have based his comments on playing the vihuela on his knowledge of the instrument, but rather by an analysis of Valderráno’s book. This concords with Bermudo’s probably erroneous remark about Valderrábano’s employment.
• Quotes Bermudo on playing ‘en concierto’ with 2 or 3 vihuelas, or guitarra, bandurria and vihuela.
• Angles’ transcriptions of the Morales works omit much of Valderrábano’s musica ficta
• Valderrábano’s ficta conforms with the theory of the time. • Valderrábano uses little ornamentation
• Notas suprimidas: two reasons: (1) ‘por excusar golpes desabridos’ (2) ‘por quitar dificultad’
in some cases Valderrábano manipulates the voices, although perhaps he had access to different models. Changes notes to avoid chords in second inversion. [ie he understood chords]. Omits some octavess and passing notes for the sake of simplicity
