ISSN: 1058-7500 • Abstract: Discusses the two kinds of «redobles» found in the vihuela and Baroque guitar music of the Mexican province of Veracruz. The Mexican song «Cielito lindo» in its earliest form was an 18th-c. Spanish play by Francisco de Castro called «El pésame de Medrano» (1702). Two related versions of the song are found in Veracruz Province. Guitar-type instruments used in the area were the jarana huasteca and guitara quinta. (Hartsock, Ralph)
