• Rey (Tesoro sacro musical 59 (1976)) suggests that Bermudo may not have based his comments on playing the vihuela on his knowledge of the instrument, but rather by an anlysis of Valderrábano’s book. This concords with Bermudo’s probably erroneous remark about Valderrábano’s employment.
