The work of the present thesis consists of research on the ancient Granada school of guitar building (personified in the known guitar makers and those discovered during the researches), the analysis of the texts that have been produced about it and, mainly, the study of the representative instruments preserved from this period, many of them unknown until now. On the other hand, it proposes, in a detailed and reasoned way, a set of techniques and procedures for the study of the instruments of this collection, specifically chordophones, to help achieve the maximum information and also to promote the unification of performances and protocols in current organological studies. A historical framework has been created on the evolution of the guitar and related instruments. A complete glossary of the most common terms related to the construction of guitars and an index of historical guitar makers in Granada has also been compiled.
